The "Sustainable Aviation Fuel" (SAF) parallel forum of the 2nd International Conference on Green Aviation (ICGA2024) took place in Chengdu, Sichuan, on November 6-7, 2024.
Hosted by Civil Aviation University of China, the Second Research Institute of CAAC, and Cathay Pacific Airways Limited, the forum brought together numerous experts from around the world to discuss key SAF topics, including policy, raw materials, processes, safety and sustainability certification, pricing, market development, and supply chain integration. The aim was to accelerate the full integration of the SAF industry chain and promote SAF development, validation, and application.
The opening ceremony on November 6 was moderated by Triant Flouris, Vice President of the Metropolitan University of Greece and IAGA’s candidate Vice President. Zuxi XIA, Director, Fuel & Chemical Airworthiness Certification Center of the Second Research Institute of CAAC, delivered the opening speech. The forum’s invited report session was jointly moderated by Professor Xiaojun YANG from Civil Aviation University of China, Ping ZENG, Director of the Aviation Fuel Technology Department at the Second Research Institute of CAAC, and Jinxia Fu, Chief Scientist of Aviation Fuel Innovation of Fuel & Chemical Airworthiness Certification Center at the Second Research Institute of CAAC
The opening remarks emphasized the critical role of SAF in both the international aviation industry and global environmental protection. The speakers noted that the production and use of SAF require collaboration across various sectors, including R&D, manufacturing, supply, and certification.
The sub-forum included two major presentations, with government, academic, and industry experts sharing insights into the SAF landscape.
At the conclusion of the session, outstanding papers on SAF were presented by authors Xinran LUO and Haiyang HU. The forum successfully contributed to the development of SAF in various fields and set the stage for the next chapter in its global advancement.
